Twins outfielder Jason Kubels left knee is still swollen, sidelining him for Minnesotas game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kubels MRI on Saturday showed no damage and manager Ron Gardenhire says he has a bone bruise, nothing more. Kubel is expected back Sunday or Monday.

The Twins primary designated hitter, Kubel entered the weekend seventh in the AL with a .336 batting average. He was playing left field Thursday when he jammed the knee trying to make a catch in the gap.

With Delmon Young at his mothers funeral, the Twins were missing two players on the active roster and faced Milwaukee without any backup outfielders. Infielders Nick Punto and Matt Tolbert were the emergency replacements.

Escobar held out with injury

Shortstop Yunel Escobar has been scratched from the Atlanta Braves lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Escobar has a strained right hip flexor and is listed as day to day.

Rookie Diory Hernandez was slated to make his first major league start Saturday night and second baseman Kelly Johnson replaced Escobar as the leadoff hitter.

The Braves also were without third baseman Chipper Jones for the second straight game. Jones has a sore right big toe.

Hernandez was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday after Omar Infante was placed on the disabled list with a broken bone in his hand.
