BOSTON -Kevin Youkilis hit a three-run homer two innings after his long foul ball was upheld by a replay review, Mike Lowell also had a three-run shot and the Boston Red Sox avoided being swept at home for the first time this season by beating the New York Mets 12-5 on Sunday.

J.D. Drew went 4 for 5 and Nick Green had a tiebreaking two-run single as the Red Sox rebounded from a rough loss Saturday night when Omir Santos replay-reversed homer against closer Jonathan Papelbon gave the Mets a 3-2 win.

Boston rallied with three runs to take a 6-5 edge against starter Tim Redding (0-1) in the fifth. George Kottaras RBI double chased Redding before Green singled home two runs on the first pitch from reliever Sean Green.

Jason Bay had an RBI single before Drew added a run-scoring double in the sixth. Youkilis homered against Brian Stokes, capping a four-run seventh.

The video-replay system at Fenway Park got used for the second straight day, and umpires upheld their call that Youkilis drive toward the left-field pole was foul.

Tim Wakefield (6-2), the clubs most consistent starter so far this season, gave up five runs and seven hits in six innings for his fourth win in five starts.

Rangers 5, Astros 0

HOUSTON – Brandon McCarthy scattered nine hits in his first career complete game and the Rangers completed a three-game sweep.

Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler and Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered as the AL West leaders moved nine games above .500 and extended the Astros losing streak to four.

McCarthy (4-2) struck out six and walked one while outpitching Mike Hampton (2-4).

Hampton, who has been bothered by a cut on his left thumb, allowed five runs and eight hits in five innings.

Phillies 4, Yankees 3, 11 innings

NEW YORK – Carlos Ruiz hit a two-out RBI double in the 11th inning and Philadelphia overcame another blown save by Brad Lidge.

Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino and Raul Ibanez each drove in a run for Philadelphia, and Ruiz neatly blocked the plate to stop Johnny Damon from scoring early.

The Phillies went 8-2 on their three-city, 10-day trip and improved to a major league-best 16-6 on the road.

Clay Condrey (4-0), the Phillies sixth pitcher, worked two scoreless innings.

Chase Utley got the winning rally started with a two-out walk against Brett Tomko (0-1). Utley stole second before Ruiz lined the ninth pitch of the at-bat down the third-base line.

Melky Cabrera hit a tying single off Lidge in the ninth. as the Yankees nearly rallied for their fifth walkoff win of a wildly successful 10-game homestand. New York went 8-2 in its best stretch to date at the new Yankee Stadium, and has won 10 of 12 overall.

Nationals 8, Orioles 5

WASHINGTON – Adam Dunn hit two home runs, including a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning, for a career-high six RBIs and the Nationals rallied for a victory.

With Washington trailing 5-4, pinch-hitter Anderson Hernandez led off the seventh with a single against Chris Ray (0-1). Willie Harris singled, Cristian Guzman sacrificed and Ryan Zimmerman was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Jamie Walker relieved, and Dunn hit a drive into the Orioles bullpen in left field for his 10th career grand slam. It was his 14th home run this season.

Ron Villone (2-0) worked a scoreless seventh for the victory and Joel Hanrahan got three outs for his fifth save.

Dunn followed Ryan Zimmermans single in the sixth with a two-run shot for a 4-3 lead.

Marlins 5, Rays 4, 11 innings

MIAMI – Ross Gload drove in the winning run with a one-out, bases-loaded single in the 11th inning against Lance Cormier (0-1), and the Marlins snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Marlins had lost eight in a row at home to the Rays, and were outscored 25-5 in the first two games of the series.

Rays second baseman Akinori Iwamura hurt his left knee when hit while trying to turn a double play in the eighth inning and was carted off the field. He will have an MRI.

The Rays went 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position. Florida won after squandering leads of 3-0 and 4-3.

Rockies 3, Tigers 1

DETROIT – Todd Helton drove in two runs, Jason Hammel pitched into the seventh inning for his first win this season and Colorado beat Dontrelle Willis and the Tigers 3-1.

Hammel (1-3) was making his sixth start since joining the rotation in late April. He allowed one run on six hits and three walks in six-plus innings. Three relievers finished the Rockies interleague series win, with Huston Street pitching the ninth for his seventh save in as many tries.

Willis (1-1) allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 2-3 innings. He has a 3.57 ERA in three starts after missing the first six weeks of the season with an anxiety disorder.

Reds 4, Indians 3, 11 innings

CINCINNATI – Alex Gonzalez doubled home the winning run with one out in the 11th inning and the Reds won the all-Ohio series.

The Reds took two of three. Carlos Fisher (1-0), Cincinnatis fifth pitcher, pitched a scoreless 11th to get the win in his major league debut.

Ramon Hernandez led off the Reds 11th with a single against Luis Vizcaino (1-2), and pinch-runner Paul Janish moved up on Adam Rosales sacrifice.

Gonzalez followed by lining a 3-2 pitch over the head of center fielder Grady Sizemore for his third RBI of the game.

Pirates 4, White Sox 3

CHICAGO – Jack Wilson hit a tying homer off Bobby Jenks with two outs in the ninth inning, then Delwyn Young got the go-ahead RBI single as Pittsburgh finally scored against the White Sox.

Shut out in the series first two games and frustrated for most of Sunday, the Pirates rallied against an unlikely victim. Jenks, an All-Star closer, entered the game with a 0.00 ERA in save situations and 10 saves in as many opportunities.

Octavio Dotel, who came in with the third-lowest ERA of any AL reliever (0.66) gave up a two-out homer to Eric Hinske in the eighth. The next inning, Jenks (0-2) retired the first two batters on weak grounders before Wilson sent a 1-0 pitch over the left-field fence.

Nyjer Morgan followed with a double into the right-field corner and Young pulled Jenks next pitch down the left-field line.

John Grabow (3-0) pitched the eighth for the win, and Matt Capps struck out the side in the ninth for his ninth save.

Royals 3, Cardinals 2

ST. LOUIS – Brian Bannister worked six strong innings and drove in a run and pinch-hitter Mike Jacobs RBI single snapped a seventh-inning tie, helping the Royals avoid a three-game sweep in the I-70 interleague series.

The Royals ended a 24-inning scoreless drought and finally got to St. Louis pitching, which shut them out 5-0 each of the first two games.

The Cardinals entered the finale with a five-game winning streak behind stingy starters who allowed only one run in 36 2-3 innings. All three games were sold out.

Joel Pineiro (5-4) allowed three runs in seven innings on Sunday to offset a rare RBI single from the .090-hitting pitcher. Pineiro worked his fourth straight game without a walk.

Bannister (4-1) allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings.

Braves 10, Blue Jays 2

ATLANTA – Brian McCann homered twice, pinch-hitter Chipper Jones drove in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded single in the seventh inning and the Braves beat Toronto to cap a three-game sweep.

The sweep was the Braves first in eight series with Toronto.

The Blue Jays six-game losing streak is their longest since dropping seven straight last June.

Jeff Bennett (2-1), Atlantas third of five relievers, recorded one out in the seventh.

Shawn Camp (0-2) gave up the first three runs in the seventh.

Mariners 5, Giants 4

SEATTLE – Adrian Beltre and Ken Griffey Jr. homered, leading Felix Hernandez and the Mariners.

Beltre hit a three-run homer in the fifth off Barry Zito (1-5) to give the Mariners a 5-3 lead. Franklin Gutierrez walked and Ichrio Suzuki singled prior to Beltres second home run of the year.

Hernandez (5-3), who had lost three of his last four starts and allowed six runs in each of the defeats, bounced back with a strong performance. He struck out 10 in eight innings and allowed one earned run.

Griffey hit a two-run homer in the first. It was his 616th career home run and fifth of the season.

Athletics 6, Diamondbacks 2

At OAKLAND, Calif., – Jason Giambi homered a day after reaching the 400 milestone and Landon Powell hit a tiebreaking shot for his first career home run as the Athletics avoided a sweep. Giambi, who on Saturday night became the 44th player in major league history with 400 homers, provided an insurance run with his seventh-inning solo drive.

Rookie Josh Outman (2-0) worked out of jams all day and hung tough with Jon Garland (4-3), who pitched five scoreless innings before running into trouble.

Arizona had won a season-high four in a row.

Angels 10, Dodgers 7

LOS ANGELES – Torii Hunter drove in three runs after a frightening collision with the center-field fence, and the Angels won the rubber game of the Freeway Series.

Rookie Jason Bulger (2-1) earned the victory, retiring all four batters he faced after relieving starter Matt Palmer with two outs in the fifth inning.

The Angels took two of three games. The teams will play in Anaheim next month.

Hunter gave the Angels quite a scare in the fourth when he raced back on a drive by Matt Kemp and caught the ball over his head while slamming into the padded wall. Hunter stayed in the game, and made a nice, over-the-shoulder catch on Casey Blakes drive in the fifth.

Chad Billingsley (6-2) gave up five runs and nine hits in six innings.

National League

Padres 7, Cubs 2

SAN DIEGO – Kevin Kouzmanoff homered and had four RBIs, capping the Padres first 9-0 homestand.

San Diegos nine-game winning streak is the longest in the NL this season. Even so, it merely pulled the Padres back to .500.

The Cubs, whose offense disappeared during an 0-6 trip, lost their season-high seventh straight and tumbled to .500. Its their longest losing streak since May 2006, when they lost eight straight.

Chris Young (4-2) added to the Cubs misery by hitting a two-run single and holding them to two runs and four hits in seven innings.

allowed five runs and eight hits in 6 1-3 innings. Ted Lilly (5-4) struck out four and walked two.
