CHICAGO -Mark Buehrle pitched the 18th perfect game in major league history, getting a huge assist from Chicago center fielder DeWayne Wise, and the White Sox beat Tampa Bays 5-0 on Thursday.

Wise, a ninth-inning replacement in center field, went over the yellow line on top of the wall in left-center to rob Gabe Kapler of a leadoff homer, falling to the ground and ending with the ball in his bare hand.

Michel Hernandez struck out and Jason Bartlett grounded to shortstop to complete the first perfect game since Randy Johnson threw one for Arizona on May 18, 2004.

Buehrle (11-3) struck out six in his second no-hitter. He no-hit Texas on April 18, 2007.

Buehrle went to three-ball counts on five batters, including 3-0 to Bartlett in the sixth. With two outs in the eighth, Pat Burrell lined one just foul to left field, with third-base umpire Laz Diaz making an emphatic foul call. Burrell lined out to third.

Josh Fields hit a grand slam in the second inning.

Scott Kazmir (4-6) allowed five runs and five hits in six innings.

Mariners 2, Tigers 1

DETROIT – Jarrod Washburn pitched seven scoreless innings for Seattle.

Washburn (8-6) allowed two hits and two walks as the Mariners won for the eighth time in 10 games. He is 5-1 with a 1.81 ERA in his last seven starts.

David Aardsma pitched a perfect ninth for his 24th save.

Rookie starter Luke French (1-1) allowed two runs and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings and struck out six.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the first on Mike Sweeneys RBI double and made it 2-0 in the sixth on an run-scoring grounder by Wladimir Balentien.

Curtis Granderson pulled the Tigers within 2-1 with a two-out RBI triple in the eighth.

Indians 5, Blue Jays 4

TORONTO – Rookie David Huff won for the first time in three starts and Shin-Soo Choo tripled home two runs for Cleveland.

Huff (5-4) allowed four runs and eight hits in 7 2-3 innings. He walked one and struck out four. Huff left after Kevin Millar cut Clevelands lead to one with a two-out homer. Joe Smith came on and got Vernon Wells to ground out and Kerry Wood pitched the ninth for his 13th save.

The Indians chased Toronto rookie left-hander Marc Rzepczynski with a three-run fifth featuring Choos triple.

Toronto made it 4-3 on a two-run homer by Aaron Hill, who leads the team with 22.

Rzepczynski (1-2) worked 4 1-3 innings, the shortest of his four major league starts, allowing four runs, two earned, and three hits.
