Baltimore Orioles rookie right-hander Alfredo Simon left Tuesday nights start against the Texas Rangers in the second inning with a right elbow problem.
Simon, making his third career start and second this season, allowed solo homers to Michael Young, Nelson Cruz and Chris Davis among the first seven batters he faced Tuesday night.
Simon went to a 1-1 count on Jarrod Saltalamacchia with one out in the second before manager Dave Trembley and a team trainer went to the mound to check on Simon.
The Orioles later announced Simon left with right elbow discomfort and would fly back to Baltimore on Wednesday for further evaluation.
Simon, who gave up five homers over 6 1-3 innings in his first two outings this season, was replaced by right-hander Dennis Sarfate.
